Friends and neighbors, we have about 3 weeks left in the Independent Petition process. As many of you already know, I have received the Democratic Nomination for the DPW position, but as a registered Independent/”no-party”. Endorsements have not yet gone out. I am still petitioning alone on my own line (no one else, just me). If you have not signed another petition related to the DPW, I would greatly appreciate your signatures.
I know other Independent Petitions have gone out, and I respect everyone’s individual process. People who know me or have heard of me through hearsay: In taking the Democratic Nomination, I am doing so in the best interest of this city. My platform points of a transparent communication solution for Saratogians, and sidewalk code reform, go hand in hand, with the great goals of municipal efficiency and transparency. We will also be adding scheduled services as a key goal of this campaign.
What many of you may not know is there is a great cost to campaigning and a certain level of electoral legalese required to run that has nothing to do with the day-to-day operations of Public Works, and I thank the Democratic Committee for taking me on and helping me with this. We share a vision for this city related to Public Works that people of any political affiliation can appreciate. I do not think choosing to run with any party makes you any less respectable or diminishes your value as a thoughtful individual. I also, as an independent, understand the personal desire to remain non-partisan in such tumultuous times.
Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, or Independent I hope you can consider my campaign and what we may be able to achieve with some change to the DPW. I hope to continue to run a campaign of respect. I will be releasing more campaign information in June after this Independent Petition process is complete.
